It may come to that especially after this election.. Some will not be happy with whoever we put in office whether its McCain or Obama. The fact is that is a possibility. Also don't forget that the risk of terrorist attacks are possible. Some will riot over who gets in but it is my hope that it doesn't come to that...

It won't happen, this is the politics of fear from the liberals, that if we continue on the direction we've been going in we'll be a police state and citizens will have no rights.

Everyone who loves freedom should be concerned about the acquisition of power by the government, for that is what governments do.
Remember in 1933 German elected an excellent public speaker who had unbelievable solutions. Property rights have been diminish since 1913 at an increasing rate. Privacy, especially medical private, has been eroded by people who want more access to your medical records (in the name of national security, and cost savings). 10 years ago, people could freely associate with others who like them smoked cigarettes/cigars. Today, in many states this freedom to associate has been made illegal. Freedoms once removed (like virginity) is never returned. So every citizen should remember the words of Thomas Jefferson: When government fears its people, there is liberty; when people fear their government, there is tyranny. I believe it was Grover Cleveland who said: Citizens are required to know who governs them, but the converse is not true. Let's hope that people will vote for more freedom and not less. |

Very much so .The tragedy is that when it does happen it will be with the consent and blessing of the people>Too bad

nothing is impossible but i really doubt it, this nation has lasted through tough times before. FDR interned Japanese Lincoln suspended habius corpus, we are still here.the biggest threat to this democracy is an increasingly ignorant society, the politicians feed off of that.

There is always the tendency toward tyranny. The founding fathers of the U.S. were very much concerned about this, and for that reason instituted checks and balances. But we don't have checks and balances everywhere, and in certain places local officials run amok. l
Police tyranny is not new, even in the U.S. There were times and places in our history when minorities, likes blacks and Indians, were the main victims. When those things happened , a lot of the the respectable local citizens either participated or didn't get involved. It is not usual for people to speak up against these things when they happen. |

It already has become a police state, but most people won't believe it until it affects them directly.
And it will only get worse. Look at the new Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act". The name of that act is bu#@@hit. Its purpose is to quell political dissent in America. Under that Act, the difference between "terrorism" and "crime" ceases to exist. The FBI already considers a potential terrorist to be someone who frequently cites the Constitution. We have police in full battle gear policing the New York subways. Yes, I am most definitely concerned. |
