I could not sleep the other night so i took one of my father in laws zanax pills. I didnt think about it at the time that they might test for that. Please no lectures. This is the first time i have tried zanax. Just thought it was some type of prescription sleeping pill. And if they do,and it shows up, how can i explain it? I really want and need this job. Very scared about this. Please any good answers will greatly be appreciated. God bless!

im not sure how extensive the drug test is but any type of "drug" will produce a negative reading. i take xanax to sleep at night and recently had to undergo a surprise drug test which came back negative and they asked if i had taken any cough syrup or prescription drugs and i told them xanax and produced a prescription and they let it go. i dont nor have i ever done drugs and i didnt no that drug test pick up everything from cough syrup to tylenol.

Okay, no lectures.....they will screen for all drugs and if it shows up you will have to show that you are allowed to use the drug they found. Your problem is that you don't have a prescription for the Xanax, so they will more than likely not hire you if it shows up. I am on Darvocet for serious migraines. When I take drug tests it shows up, but I just have to give them my prescribing doctor's info and what it's for. Once they verify I have the Rx, everthing is fine.

Questions...how many days ago did you take the Xanax and what strength was it and when did you take the drug screen? Was it blood, urine or oral?
Legal drugs can show up in the system for about 48 hours and sometimes not at all. For instance if you took a Vicodine (just one) as prescribed at bedtime and tested the following afternoon about 12-16 hrs later the chance of it showing up is slight. If you are VERY concerned, go to a doctor and ask for a RX for a very small amount (10) pills. Tell him the truth about what you did and why and that you sometimes have an occasion to take the medication. Legal drugs are expelled much more quickly from the system, they are designed to do that so the dr. can be sure you are getting a proper dosage for what the diagnosis is. So Xanax will get out of your system fairly fast and when you take it again the next night you won't be over drugged...make sense? Honesty is the best policy but I don't think I'd be talking to the police dept about it! If you are honest, a good doctor will help you out if you really don't have a problem. Just "cowboy up" to the doc...and then if asked, tell the coppers and be honest about taking it. They may not like the fact that you felt the best way to handle a nervous situation was to take a pill but you can be honest about that as well. Perfect example of how people do silly things when faced with something fearful! |

Hello JP. You didnt mention what state you are applying in, but I work in Ohio and we use a standard urine drug screen and Zanax is not one of the drugs that would be tested.
I dont know what level test you might be given without knowing what your state's policy is, but most use a simply drug screen for THC, coke and the normal "recreational" drugs that are bought on the streets. Best of luck to you and welcome to our little club |
